While titles and artist statements are often essential tools a photographer uses to distill the essence of a work or body of work, sometimes, as a viewer, it is nice to come to an image fresh, without any imposed viewpoint or idea. In such an instance, the viewer can potentially bring more of his or her own ideas or emotions or memories to the work and perhaps have a more personal experience than would be possible otherwise.
The photographs in this collection, from some of the region’s most well-established and up-and-coming photographers, are presented as such, with no titles or artist statements. Some certainly have titles in general and are quite specific to a place. Others are parts of larger bodies of work. But I feel that they are all interesting and evocative enough to stand on their own, freeing each viewer to connect with them on his or her own terms.
I would like to thank all the photographers, as well as everyone who has supported the gallery during these past two years-Ron Hughes/Composition Gallery
