Bloomsday:
A James Joyce Celebration

Composition Gallery presents Bloomsday:

A James Joyce Celebration, Featuring readings and performances by Theatre Gael, Hubcap City, and poets Collin Kelley and Rupert Fike. Friday June 16th at 8 p.m.

James Joyce's seminal novel Ulysses chronicles one day in the lives of three Dubliners, lead character Leopold Bloom, his wife Molly, and Stephen Dedalus, a young poet and teacher. The date Joyce chose, June 16th 1904, is thought to be the day he fell in love with Nora Barnacle, his future wife. The two remained together until his death in 1941.

In Dublin, revelers gather on Bloomsday and set out to recreate this day in the life of Leopold Bloom, and to honor the accomplishment of their city’s famed literary son.

Bloomsday celebrations, however, are not confined to Dublin; and Composition Gallery seeks to capture a bit of the Joycean spirit with an evening of readings and performances on June 16th 2006, featuring Theatre Gael, Atlanta’s renowned Irish theatre company. Performers include Carl McColman, Lynn Scott Myers, Kristin Seymour, John Stephens, and James Taylor. The evening will also feature poets Collin Kelley and Rupert Fike, as well as music from Hubcap City.
