Biographies
Mike Dockins was born in 1972 and grew up in New York. He holds a BS from SUNY Brockport and an MFA from UMASS Amherst. He lives currently in Atlanta where he is completing a PhD from Georgia State University. He has worked with Five Points, Terminus, and The Massachusetts Review, and he is a co-founding editor of Redactions: Poetry & Poetics. Mike's poems have appeared in numerous magazines, and his first book, Slouching in the Path of a Comet, was published by Sage Hill Press in 2007. His poem, "Dead Critics Society," will appear in the 2007 edition of The Best American Poetry, guest edited by Heather McHugh. www.myspace.com/mikedockins.
Kodac Harrison is a musician and spoken word artist. As a musician he has been on the bill with Patti Smith, Marianne Faithful, John Mayer, The Indigo Girls, Alejandro Escovado, Ellis Paul and Brendan O'Brien. As a poet he has been billed with Maya Angelou, Patricia Smith and Pearl Cleage. Kodac was named "Best Spoken Word Artist" in Atlanta's Creative Loafing. In September 2007, he released his 11th full-length studio recording, Dreams & Nightmares. Kodac is the co-editor of the award-winning Java Monkey Speaks Anthology series, for which he won a Georgia Author of the Year Award in 2007. He has been hosting the award-winning Java Monkey Speaks open mic for more than six years. www.kodacharrison.com.
Collin Kelley is the author of the collection Better To Travel, the chapbook, Slow To Burn, a spoken word CD, HalfLife Crisis, and the forthcoming collection, Wake. His work has appeared in dozens of journals and magazines including Terminus, Blue Fifth Review, New Delta Review, Chiron Review, The Pedestal, poetic diversity and In Posse Review. He is the co-editor of the Java Monkey Speaks Anthology series, for which he won a Georgia Author of the Year Award in 2007. Khadijah Queen is a native of Los Angeles and received her MFA from Antioch College. Her chapbook, no isla encanta, was published by Dancing Girl Press in 2007. Her first collection, Conduit, is forthcoming from Akashic Books in 2008. Her works has appeared in Adirondack Review, new ohio review, Pedestal Magazine, Poet's Canvas, Salt River Review, Stirring and Three Candles. www.imagesound.tk.
Megan Volpert is a Chicagoan with a Master of Fine Arts from Louisiana State University. She has built a cult-following of fans performing spoken word around the country under the stage name Dr. Madelyn Hatter. Her first collection of poetry, Face Blindness, was published in 2007 by blazeVox books, followed by a chapbook, Domestic Transmissions, from MetroMania Press. She teaches High School English in Atlanta. This is her first book. www.madelynhatter.com.
Cecilia Woloch is the author of three critically acclaimed books of poetry: Sacrifice, Tsigan: The Gypsy Poem and Late. She is the winner of the 2007 Tupelo Press Chapbook Award for the forthcoming Narcissus. Her work has appeared in magazines and journals all over the world as well as Best American Poetry 2005. She is the director of the Summer Poetry in Idyllwild festival and the Paris Poetry Workshop. About Chante Whitley-Head
Chante Whitley-Head was the founder of the Atlanta Literary Festival and worked in public relations for Barnes & Noble. In 2004, she asked Collin Kelley and Cecilia Woloch to organize a poetry reading for the festival. The event was Voices Carry and was originally held at The Carter Center. Earlier this year, Chante lost a long battle with cancer. She was only 43. As we prepare to hold Voices Carry 4, sponsored by Poetry Atlanta, Inc., we will pay tribute to this special friend.
