The war in Iraq is responsible for countless individual human tragedies as well as widespread material destruction; and as policy, it has contributed to a level of political and social division unprecedented in recent American history. Even  initial supporters have come to question its justifications and the efficacy of its execution.  Indeed, in recent weeks, conditions in Iraq have continued to deteriorate, and at present, there are few signs of hope for a peaceful resolution.
