Caesura

February 11 — April 08 2006

Featuring:

The word caesura literally means "a break". It can refer to a rest, a breathing space, within a musical composition. In poetics a caesura is a pause within a line of verse; a pause not dictated by meter, but rather by a sense of the words themselves, or the rhythms of human speech.

It is possible to view a photograph as a series of pauses. The act of arranging a photograph, posing for a photograph, or thoughtfully viewing a photograph is indeed an act of taking pause. The finished image can represent a moment of creativity, of contemplation or reflection, or simply a chance to stop and take a breath. The photographs in this collection are all indicative of the potential of such moments, those moments in-between.
